WELCOME TO THE BLACK HOUSE ON MAIN

An 1834 New England Home, Lovingly Restored on the Banks of the Jones River

More than just historic beams and bricks, this is a record of breathing new life into local history—balancing preservation, livability, and thoughtful design for our family today.

A LITTLE PIECE OF HISTORY

Built in 1834, 176 Main Street is a beautifully preserved piece of Kingston’s landscape, reflecting the quiet elegance and craftsmanship of the Greek Revival era. Our restoration journey is a record of breathing new life into these historic beams and bricks, balancing preservation with modern livability. We invite you to discover the architectural roots and stories that have shaped this home for nearly two centuries.

Becoming the Black House on Main

When we realized the exterior of our home was in need of some serious love, I knew right away that I wanted to do something bold. I kept coming back to the same vision: painting the entire house black. Siding remodel using LP SmartSide was our first step in this transformative journey.

THE HEART OF THE HOME

We peeled back the old plaster to find the original handmade bricks. It’s back to being the cozy spot where our family has gathered for almost two hundred years.

THE GABLE HIDEAWAY

We kept the charm of the slanted ceilings and added soft linens and soapstone details. It’s exactly the kind of peaceful space we used to dream about.
